Report an Incident HERE: Education Support for Muslim Families at Halton District School Board

About the Service

Our Service Navigator is here for the community to empower families to advocate for their children’s needs within the education system at Halton District School Board. We help equip families with knowledge about your rights, offers tools for effective self-advocacy, mental health support and access to resources, through up to five consultative sessions with the service navigator.

Stats

10% Muslim population in the Halton Region

27% of HDSB Elementary students identify as Muslim

17% of HDSB Secondary students identify as Muslim

This initiative aims to achieve this by:

  1. Providing Muslim-identifying families with the support of a systems navigator to tackle issues of Islamophobia and racism

  2. Help parents develop advocacy skills

  3. Establish data collection to inform future efforts and initiatives

  4. Build a connected community

Incident Reporting Tool

We have developed a secure incident reporting tool for the community to report instances of Islamophobia or racism that occur at the Halton District School Board (HDSB). Our service navigator will follow up, providing 1-5 consultative sessions to help address and resolve the issue.

This Initiative empowers families to advocate for their children's needs within the Halton District School Board. Our Systems Navigator is available to support families through 1to 5 consultative sessions, addressing any challenges their Muslim child(ren) may encounter at school. This tool created by the Muslim Advisory Council of Canada, will collect data on incidents while maintaining privacy, with the Halton District School Board only receiving information if families consent.

Our mission is to support and empower Muslim families in the Halton Region by providing the tools needed to advocate for their children's educational success and mental well-being, fostering a more inclusive school environment.

Please complete this form to contact our Systems Navigator. If you have multiple children, kindly fill out a separate form for each child. We will strive to respond within 2 business days.

This form is confidential, and no information will be shared outside the Muslim Advisory Council Canada without your consent.
