Advisory Board

  • Jewel Amoah is a Canadian-Trinidadian human rights lawyer, activist and academic.

    She is committed to research, advocacy and activism to inspire and produce systemic change, enhance access to justice and the full enjoyment of rights.

    She is currently the Assistant Dean, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto.

    She has facilitated organisational change in various domestic and international public sector entities by raising awareness of harassment, discrimination, humanrights and equity in teaching, learning and working environments. These environments have provided an opportunity to apply and expand her academic analysis of intersectionality and its impact on the attainment of equitable outcomes on the basis of race, gender, gender identity, religion and disability, amongst others.

  • Dr. Javeed Sukhera is the Chair of Psychiatry at the Institute of Living and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He has (pending) academic affiliations with the University of Connecticut and Yale University. Dr. Sukhera comes to Hartford HealthCare from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada where he held various clinical and academic leadership roles. He graduated from the University of Toronto and Ben-Gurion University and completed his residency and child/adolescent fellowship training at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He completed his PhD in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University. He is an internationally recognized health professions education researcher. His research program explores novel approaches to addressing stigma and bias among health professionals and he has also been involved in advocacy and cross-sectoral work in education, policing, and community services. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Canadian Medical Association Journal and Deputy Editor of Perspectives on Medical Education.

  • In his more than 20-year career as a business owner and entrepreneur, Saud Juman has worked through every possible business challenge in a variety of industries -- from designing unique products, developing new markets, creating corporate culture plans, recruiting and building a world class team, navigating through significant growth, change, and executing a highly successful exit.

    Saud himself has grown, run and sold a multi-national business called PolicyMedical Inc. that developed numerous hospital data management systems trusted by over 3000 hospitals and healthcare organizations world-wide. As a result, Saud knows and understands what leaders, founders and CEOs face on a daily basis.

  • Description text goes hereSergeant Ryan Smith has been employed with the Halton Regional Police Service since 2010. Sergeant Smith grew up and still lives in the Region of Halton, so being able to police the community he calls home is something he is very proud of. During his time employed as a Police Officer, Sergeant Smith has undertaken various roles within a uniform and investigative capacity. He currently oversees the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office where he is responsible for several initiatives aimed at enhancing collaboration between the Police Service and the diverse community living and working in the Region of Halton. Sergeant Smith understands the value that a community-oriented approach brings to a Police Service and how external partnerships can assist in addressing the complexities and challenges within policing and other public safety professions.

  • Shireen Salti has worked at the intersection of higher education, governments, and the nonprofit sector in Canada over the last 8 years. She is the former Executive Director of the Canadian Arab Institute where she amplified the policy priorities of Arab-Canadians at the federal level of government during a global pandemic.

    Shireen has been recently featured as one of 40 influential and diverse Canadians in a book called Inspiring Canadians by acclaimed CBC journalist Mark Bulgutch. She has previously worked at Queen's Park for Members of Provincial Parliament as a nonpartisan Legislative Intern. She has also advised Ontario university presidents on Indigenous, cannabis, mental health, and accessibility policies on campus at Council of Ontario Universities.

    Shireen has recently been appointed as Advancement Lead in the Dean's Office at Windsor Law.

    She holds a Master's in Public Policy, Administration, and Law, Graduate Diploma in Judicial Administration and a BA Honours in Business & Society. She was named the School of Public Policy and Administration's Emerging Leader and is a regular public commentator in Canadian and international media. She is a firm believer in cross sectoral approaches to advocacy and governance.
